Khagaria: A three-day badminton championship featuring veteran players from across the state will begin in Khagaria on Saturday. The Bihar State Masters Veteran Badminton Championship, scheduled from March 7 to 9, is expected to attract experienced athletes and sports enthusiasts, promising competitive matches and high-level gameplay.
The tournament is being organised under the joint aegis of the Bihar Badminton Association and the Khagaria Badminton Association. All matches will be held at the Indoor Stadium in Khagaria, where players from several districts of Bihar will compete to showcase their experience and skills on the court.
The championship will be formally inaugurated at 11am on Saturday. Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar will attend the opening ceremony as the chief guest, while senior deputy collector and district sports officer Praveen Kumar will be present as a special guest. Officials of the Khagaria District Badminton Association and local sports lovers are also expected to attend the event.
According to Dr H Prasad, secretary of the Khagaria District Badminton Association, more than 60 players have registered for the tournament. Participants will compete in multiple age categories including 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, and 60+, with organisers expecting the matches between experienced players to draw significant interest from spectators.
Organisers said that all arrangements for the successful conduct of the tournament have been completed. Facilities for players’ accommodation, the indoor courts, officiating umpires and other logistical requirements have been put in place to ensure the smooth running of the event.
They added that hosting such tournaments can help strengthen the sporting culture in the district while providing veteran athletes with a platform to continue competing at a high level. Local sports fans will have the opportunity to watch three days of competitive badminton during the championship.
