Patna: Authorities in Patna have launched a citywide mosquito-control campaign as changing weather conditions raise concerns over a possible increase in mosquito breeding across the city. The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) said the drive focuses on sanitation, fogging operations and anti-larval spraying to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.
The municipal administration has instructed officials across all zones to intensify the cleaning of manholes, catchpits and drainage systems. According to the civic body, anti-larval chemicals must be sprayed during the cleaning process to destroy mosquito larvae before they mature. Executive officers have also been asked to conduct routine inspections to ensure the measures are being implemented effectively on the ground.
Special attention is being given to locations where stagnant water has been reported. In such areas, workers are placing cloth-wrapped wooden balls soaked in burnt mobil oil into standing water. The oil forms a thin layer on the surface, reducing the chances of mosquitoes breeding in those spots.
The corporation has also introduced a monitoring system to track the campaign’s progress. Field teams have been directed to submit daily reports to a central control room, with activities verified through geo-tagged photographs. Local residents will also be asked to sign verification reports, which will be cross-checked by the control room before the consolidated report is sent to the headquarters.
Alongside the municipal measures, authorities have urged residents to play a role in preventing mosquito breeding. Citizens have been advised not to allow water to accumulate in coolers, old tyres, flower pots or other containers around their homes. The civic body said residents can request fogging or anti-larval spraying in their area by contacting the municipal helpline at 155304.
