Patna: Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) has proposed procuring three six-coach metro trainsets, signalling a possible increase in the carrying capacity of the city’s metro system as operations expand and passenger numbers are expected to rise.
The three proposed trainsets would together comprise 18 coaches. The procurement process is expected to move forward after the proposal receives approval and the required technical formalities are completed.
Six-coach trains to handle higher demand
With Patna Metro expected to expand its operations across additional sections, passenger traffic is projected to increase, particularly during morning and evening peak hours.
The proposed six-coach trainsets would be capable of carrying more passengers at a time than smaller train formations currently planned for operations.
Increasing both the number and capacity of trains will become important as more sections of the metro network become operational and passenger demand grows.
Officials said the proposed procurement would strengthen the operational fleet and help the metro system manage higher passenger loads in the coming years.
