Patna: Flood-hit parts of Bihar continue to face a difficult situation, with water entering residential areas in several districts even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain warnings for 25 districts on Wednesday.
The weather department has issued orange alerts for five districts and yellow alerts for 20 others, warning of rain, lightning and strong winds.
Orange alert in five districts
An orange alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall, has been issued for:
- Khagaria
- Bhagalpur
- Munger
- Banka
- Jamui
A yellow alert has been issued for:
Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Begusarai, Patna, Nalanda, Nawada, Gaya, Jehanabad, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran.
The districts under weather warnings may also experience lightning and winds of 30–40 km/h, according to the IMD.
Similar conditions likely on Sept 10
The weather department has forecast similar conditions on September 10, with orange and yellow rain alerts remaining in force across several districts.
Residents in areas under warning have been advised to exercise caution, particularly during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
After September 10, Bihar could experience a spell of humid and uncomfortable weather for several days.
Rain may return after September 15
Despite the expected temporary reduction in rainfall, another phase of monsoon activity could develop later in the month.
According to the IMD, Bihar may receive good rainfall after September 15, with the impact expected to be particularly significant across the Seemanchal region.
Monsoon activity is expected to continue in the state until the first week of October.
Flood situation remains critical
The continuing flood crisis remains a major concern even though widespread heavy rainfall is not currently being reported across the state.
In several districts, floodwaters have entered residential areas and homes, forcing residents to leave their houses.
The administration has stepped up relief and rescue operations in affected areas, with teams working to assist residents facing displacement and other difficulties caused by the floods.
With rain and thunderstorms forecast to continue in several districts, authorities and residents remain on alert as Bihar moves through another unsettled phase of the monsoon.
