Patna: The municipal commissioner of Patna and managing director of Patna Smart City Limited, Yashpal Meena, inspected the Mandiri Nala project, a major urban infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity and drainage in the city.
Officials said the project, which includes the construction of a 1,289-metre two-lane link road, is in its final phase. The road will connect the Income Tax roundabout on Nehru Path (Bailey Road) with Bans Ghat on the Danapur–Bankipur route, providing a new traffic corridor in the central part of the city.
The project also includes the construction of a box drain, service road and utility ducts, designed to strengthen the drainage system and reduce waterlogging in nearby areas.
According to officials, the road—constructed above the covered drain—has already been blacktopped, while decorative street lighting is currently being installed. Work to link the road with Ashok Rajpath is nearing completion and the facility is expected to be opened to the public soon.
As part of the drainage infrastructure, two ramps and three desilting chambers have been built to facilitate maintenance, while four sluice gates are being installed to regulate the flow of water.
Authorities said the project is expected to improve drainage in several neighbourhoods, including S.P. Verma Road, Mithapur, Gardanibagh, Babu Bazar, Dhobighat, the Eco Park area, Chhajjubagh, MLA Flats and the Irrigation Building area.
The project site is also undergoing beautification work, including landscaping and the installation of streetlights.
During the inspection, Meena reviewed the progress and quality of the construction and instructed officials and contractors to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high quality standards.
He said the initiative aims to provide residents with safer roads, improved sanitation infrastructure and better urban amenities, while addressing long-standing drainage issues in the area.
