Patna: Confusion over the age of Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, has been clarified after a senior Janata Dal (United) minister stated that the politician is 44 years old and not 50 as previously reported.
Speculation about Nishant Kumar’s age intensified after he recently entered active politics and began participating in party programmes and outreach activities. As his public appearances increased, differing claims about his age circulated across media reports and social media platforms, creating uncertainty.
Seeking to end the confusion, senior JD(U) leader and Bihar minister Ashok Choudhary addressed the issue in a post on social media platform X. He said that the date of birth being widely reported for Nishant Kumar was inaccurate and urged media organisations to use the correct details.
Earlier reports had cited Kumar’s date of birth as July20, 1975 leading many to estimate his age at around 50. The figure was repeatedly shared on social media and referenced in several news reports, prompting widespread discussion about his age.
Choudhary clarified that Nishant Kumar was actually born on July 20, 1981 making him 44 years old. He said incorrect information had been circulated by some news outlets, making it necessary to place the correct facts in the public domain.
The debate around Kumar’s age also gained attention during his interactions with party workers at recent events. On several occasions, workers reportedly advised him to get married and start a family, further fuelling conversations online about his personal life.
Nishant Kumar formally joined the Janata Dal (United) on March 8 after taking party membership at the JDU office in Patna. Since then, he has regularly appeared at party meetings and public engagements with workers.
Political observers say his growing visibility has sparked renewed discussion about generational change in Bihar politics. With his increased participation in party activities, analysts believe he may play a larger role in the organisation in the coming years.
