Patliputra Bus Terminal Plans Expansion and Enhancements for Passenger Convenience

Patna: The Executive Committee of the Patliputra Bus Terminal (PBT) convened a meeting on Monday, chaired by the Patna District Magistrate (DM), Chandrashekhar Singh. The gathering focused on proposals aimed at facilitating the seamless operation of Pataliputra Bus Terminal in Bairia and enhancing passenger convenience.
During the meeting, the District Magistrate revealed that the acquisition of 5 acres of land to expand the PBT is currently underway. The final report concerning the social impact assessment of the land has been received from the Anugrah Narayan Singh Institute of Social Studies in Patna. DM Singh urged the officials concerned to expedite this process, emphasizing the construction of essential structures on this acquired land.
The Executive Officer of the Phulwarisharif Municipal Council, who also serves as the Secretary of PBT, presented a comprehensive agenda report aimed at improving bus operations at Pataliputra Bus Terminal. The meeting featured an extensive discussion on topics such as the functionality of CCTV systems, maintenance of cleanliness, security operations, and the progress of residual works. Valuable suggestions and information were contributed by representatives from the Bus and Auto Association and other affiliated bodies.
DM Singh stressed the importance of providing adequate toilet facilities, bathrooms, and urinals at both arrival and departure points within PBT. It was brought to the DM’s attention that presently, 78 toilets are operational, including those in the main building and the terminal building. Furthermore, Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo) is in the process of constructing 48 additional toilets at four different locations, along with 28 urinals, 14 drinking water points, and 20 bathroom facilities. DM Singh issued instructions to complete the construction of these facilities, including the acquisition of two mobile toilets for passenger convenience, within 15 days.
Additionally, DM Singh directed officials from the Road Division, Patna City, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to widen the road from Zero Mile to Masaurhi. This effort will be overseen by the Sub-Divisional Officer of Patna City. Special attention was mandated for the construction of a police post within the PBT.
To ensure organized bus operations, DM Singh instructed the Sub-Divisional Officer, District Transport Officer, and Deputy Superintendent of Traffic Police to take punitive measures against vehicles parked and operated in unauthorized areas. The meeting also highlighted the importance of having an ample number of display boards and inquiry counters to facilitate passenger convenience. DM Singh further emphasized the need for displaying passenger fare lists at key locations to prevent any inconvenience to travellers.
