Patna: Indian Railways has stepped up safety measures across the East Central Railway (ECR) zone, completing fencing along 730 kilometres of railway tracks to reduce accidents and improve operational efficiency.
Officials said the initiative focuses on routes where trains run at speeds exceeding 110 km/h, as well as areas prone to encroachment and unauthorised crossings.
Focus on high-risk and high-speed routes
Fencing has been carried out across multiple divisions, including Danapur, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, Samastipur, Sonepur and Dhanbad. These sections were identified based on safety risks linked to high-speed train movement and frequent trespassing.
In the Danapur division, fencing has been installed along the stretch from Shiwala, near Danapur station, to Patna City station. Similar work has also been undertaken in sections under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya division, including parts of the Gaya route.
Aim to prevent accidents and disruptions
Railway officials said the fencing is intended to prevent the entry of cattle, pedestrians and vehicles onto tracks, which are among the leading causes of accidents and service disruptions.
Authorities added that the move has already contributed to improved punctuality and smoother train operations in fenced sections.
To ensure safe movement for local residents, the railways have proposed the construction of pedestrian subways at several locations. These will allow people to cross tracks without risking their safety or disrupting train services.
