Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday inaugurated the Bihar Diwas 2026 celebrations at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, marking the start of a three-day programme highlighting the state’s development and cultural heritage.
The event, being held from March 22 to March 24 to commemorate Bihar’s 114th foundation day, is centred on the theme “Unnat Bihar, Ujjwal Bihar”. Kumar formally opened the celebrations by lighting a ceremonial lamp and releasing balloons.
Exhibition on development initiatives

Ahead of the inauguration, the chief minister toured an exhibition showcasing initiatives and projects undertaken by various government departments.
He visited stalls set up by the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority, where officials briefed him on ongoing programmes.
Focus on education

Nitish also inspected the education department’s pavilion, which featured facilities such as smart classrooms, science laboratories, vocational training spaces, and Atal tinkering labs.
Displays related to inclusive education, including resource rooms for students with disabilities, were also part of the exhibition.
Senior leaders present

Several senior ministers and officials attended the event, including deputy chief ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with members of the state cabinet and administrative leadership.

Officials said the celebrations aim to showcase Bihar’s progress across sectors while promoting cultural awareness and public engagement.
