Faridabad: Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh has been issued a notice by the Haryana State Commission for Women following allegations made by Haryanvi actor Anjali Raghav over a viral video from a stage performance.
The controversy stems from an event held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, around four months ago, where both performers appeared on stage together. A video clip from the programme has since circulated widely on social media, prompting debate and criticism.
Raghav, in her complaint to the commission, has alleged that Singh behaved inappropriately during the performance. She further claimed that a video was recorded and circulated without her consent, leading to mental distress and reputational harm.
According to commission chairperson Renu Bhatia, the complainant stated that she initially believed the contact during the performance was incidental. However, after the video went viral and what she described as objectionable narratives emerged online, she chose to pursue formal action.
The commission has summoned Singh to appear at its Faridabad office on April 2 to respond to the allegations.
The incident has triggered sharp reactions on social media, with supporters of Singh describing the matter as a misunderstanding, while others have called for accountability and raised concerns about respect and safety for women in the entertainment industry.
The case is expected to be examined in detail during the upcoming hearing, where both parties may present their versions of events.
Observers note that the outcome could have implications not only for those involved but also for broader discussions around conduct and consent in public performances.
