Patna: Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Urban Development and Housing, Vijay Kumar Sinha, has issued strict directives to ensure urban local bodies resolve waterlogging issues ahead of the monsoon.
Speaking during a review of pre-monsoon preparations, Sinha emphasised that drains must be cleaned, drainage systems strengthened, and vulnerable areas identified on a priority basis. “The public should not face any inconvenience whatsoever,” he said, urging officials to complete all preparations before the rains begin.
In line with these directives, two officers have been assigned additional charges. Md. Irfan Alam, Kishanganj’s District Public Grievance Redressal Officer, will also serve as Executive Officer of Thakurganj Nagar Panchayat. Meanwhile, Prince Kumar, Executive Officer of Sindhia Nagar Panchayat, has been given the additional responsibility of overseeing Rosera Nagar Parishad. Both appointments are intended to ensure continuity and effectiveness of administrative operations under Section 41 of the Bihar Municipal Act, 2007.
Sinha reiterated that appropriate measures must be in place across all urban local bodies before the 2026 monsoon, including drain cleaning, strengthened drainage infrastructure, availability of pumping sets, and identification of flood-prone areas. He warned that negligence at any level would not be tolerated and instructed officials to monitor preparations regularly, underscoring the government’s commitment to public relief.
