Patna: In Patna, controversial Mokama MLA Anant Singh has said he wants his younger son to join the Indian Police Service, as the state’s political landscape shifts following recent high-profile resignations.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after his release from jail, Singh said his son, Abhinav, would become an IPS officer. The teenager, who has recently appeared for his Class 12 examinations, responded by saying he would strive to fulfil his father’s ambition.
Singh also weighed in on the political developments surrounding Nitish Kumar, who has stepped down from his membership of the Bihar Legislative Council. Singh said Kumar had “done everything possible” for Bihar and suggested that leadership in the state should now pass either to Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, or to Samrat Choudhary.
The remarks come a day after Kumar resigned from the upper house of the state legislature, alongside Nitin Nabin, who stepped down from the legislative assembly. Both resignations were submitted through party officials and have since been accepted by the respective presiding officers.
Kumar’s resignation was formally handed to the Legislative Council chairman, Awadhesh Narain Singh, by JD(U) leader Sanjay Kumar Singh, in the presence of parliamentary affairs minister Vijay Chaudhary. Meanwhile, Nabin’s resignation was submitted to assembly speaker Prem Kumar by BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi.
Kumar, a veteran of Bihar politics, had been elected to the legislative council for four consecutive terms since first entering the house in 2006. His latest term began in May 2024 and was due to run until 2030.
Both Kumar and Nabin were recently elected to the Rajya Sabha. Under constitutional rules, members elected to both a state legislature and parliament must vacate one seat within 14 days, prompting the resignations.
