Patna: Bihar is witnessing a sharp transition in weather conditions, with intense heat replacing the storms and rainfall that marked much of March, as the India Meteorological Department warned that temperatures could cross 40°C in parts of the state.
According to the meteorological department, residents are likely to face scorching conditions over the next 48 hours, with the possibility of heatwave-like conditions prevailing during this period. Clear skies and strong sunlight have already pushed daytime temperatures higher, with heat being felt from as early as 7am.
Officials have advised people to take precautions, limit exposure during peak hours and stay hydrated amid rising temperatures.
The department said some relief may arrive after April 5, when a new weather system is expected to become active across the region. This could bring rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.

Districts including Aurangabad, Kaimur, Gaya and Nawada are likely to witness changes in weather from April 5, followed by light to moderate rainfall across most parts of the state on April 6, except for eastern Bihar.
The weather system is expected to intensify on April 7 and 8, with wind speeds reaching 50 to 60kmph and the possibility of lightning strikes.
Thursday was recorded as the hottest day of the season so far, with maximum temperatures ranging between 30°C and 38.4°C across Bihar. The highest temperature of 38.4°C was recorded in Dehri (Rohtas), as well as in Sheikhpura and Kaimur. Other districts also reported high temperatures, including 38°C in Gaya, 37.1°C in Arwal and 37.5°C in Patna and Valmikinagar.
Meteorologists said the coming days will see a combination of intense heat followed by storm activity, reflecting the typical volatility of pre-monsoon weather in the region.
