Ranchi: Chirag Paswan, 41, has been re-elected as the national president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) for another five years. Speaking at a national executive meeting in Ranchi on Sunday, Chirag confirmed his re-election and discussed the upcoming elections in Jharkhand, Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Chirag, who has often referred to himself as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Hanuman,” has remained loyal to Modi despite the split in the Lok Janshakti Party on 14 June, 2021. Chirag’s steadfast loyalty to the Prime Minister earned him the Hajipur seat for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a seat his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras also sought. Chirag proved his commitment by winning five seats in the election, cementing his reputation as Modi’s “Hanuman.”
As for the Jharkhand assembly elections, it remains uncertain whether the party will contest alongside the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) or independently. However, sources suggest that the LJP (Ram Vilas) is preparing to field candidates in 28 constituencies. This move could complicate matters for the NDA, as the BJP is gearing up to contest all 81 seats in Jharkhand, while the Janata Dal (United) has claimed 11 seats and sent their list to Bihar’s Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar.
Chirag’s success in the Lok Sabha elections, where he won seats in Hajipur, Vaishali, Samastipur, Khagaria, and Jamui, further solidified his position in the NDA. Following this victory, Paswan has emerged as a significant ally to Modi, reaffirming his role as a key player in the BJP-led coalition.
