Patna: The Department of Advertising and Marketing Management at Patna Women’s College, in collaboration with ICFAI Business School (IBS), hosted a guest lecture on August 27, 2024, focusing on the transition from college to corporate life. The lecture, held in the MVEIC Hall, was delivered by Professor Arpita Chowdhury from IBS Kolkata, who shared valuable insights into the skills and mindset needed to succeed in a professional environment.
During the session, Professor Chowdhury introduced the “Star Theory,” a framework used in job interviews, underscoring the need for students to continuously sharpen their learning skills and keep abreast of the latest technologies in their fields. She also emphasized the critical role of effective communication, highlighting that verbal communication constitutes just 7% of overall effectiveness, while non-verbal cues make up the remaining 93%.
Professor Chowdhury further elaborated on the different types of communication, including intrapersonal and interpersonal communication, and provided students with a list of recommended books to enhance their skillsets. She encouraged the adoption of the positive mantra “I can and I will,” stressing the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, perseverance, and team spirit.
The lecture was highly interactive, featuring a quiz on listening skills and lateral thinking, engaging students from both the Department of Advertising and Marketing Management and the Department of Commerce. The event provided attendees with practical advice and strategies to help them successfully navigate the transition from academic life to the corporate world.
