Patna: Residents across Bihar are likely to see relief from the recent spell of sultry heat, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing statewide alerts for thunderstorms and rainfall on April 7.
A yellow alert has been issued for districts in north Bihar, while an orange alert — indicating a higher level of caution — has been sounded for southern parts of the state.
District-wise alerts
The yellow alert covers districts including East and West Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Vaishali and Samastipur.
The orange alert has been issued for districts such as Buxar, Bhojpur, Patna, Begusarai, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Arwal, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Munger, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Jamui and Banka.
Temperature likely to dip
According to the IMD, no major shift in overall weather patterns is expected over the next three days, but temperatures are likely to remain between 30C and 40C. A marginal dip of 2C to 4C is also anticipated, offering some respite from the heat.
Meteorologists attribute the change to a trough line extending from West Bengal to Telangana, bringing increased moisture into the region and triggering mixed weather conditions.
Mixed conditions across districts
Over the past 24 hours, weather conditions across Bihar have varied. While several districts experienced intense heat and humidity, others recorded rainfall.
In Gaya, sudden thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain were reported, whereas districts such as Purnia and Bhagalpur witnessed relatively stable weather conditions.
Officials have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly in districts under orange alert, as changing weather patterns continue to influence the region.
