Patna: In response to the heavy rush of passengers during the summer holiday season, Indian Railways has announced a special train service between Kolkata and Amritsar, aiming to ease travel congestion on key routes to north India.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Asansol division under Eastern Railway. Officials said the train will complete a total of 12 trips in both directions.
Train schedule
Train No. 04624 (Amritsar–Kolkata Special) will depart from Amritsar at 8:10pm every Monday from April 13 to June 29, reaching Kolkata at 3:00pm on the third day.
On the return journey, Train No. 04623 (Kolkata–Amritsar Special) will leave Kolkata at 5:00am every Thursday from April 16 to July 2, arriving in Amritsar at 12:40am on the third day.
Key stoppages
The train will halt at several important stations under the Asansol division, including Durgapur, Asansol, Chittaranjan, Madhupur and Jasidih, in both directions.
Coach composition and booking
Railway officials said the train will have a mixed coach composition, including general, second class, sleeper and air-conditioned coaches, allowing passengers from different income groups to travel conveniently.
With long waiting lists on regular trains during the summer months, the introduction of this special service is expected to significantly ease travel pressure. Ticket bookings will be available soon through official railway channels, including online platforms and reservation counters.
