Patna: The Bihar government has extended the deadline for ration card holders to complete mandatory e-KYC verification to April 30, warning that failure to comply could result in suspension of ration supplies and removal from the beneficiary list.
Officials said the extension was granted after a significant number of beneficiaries failed to complete the biometric authentication process by the earlier deadline of March 30. Authorities have described the verification drive as part of an effort to improve transparency and curb irregularities in the public distribution system.
The e-KYC requirement has been made compulsory to ensure that only eligible beneficiaries continue to receive subsidised food grains. Departmental data reportedly indicates instances of ration being drawn in the names of deceased individuals, as well as cases where multiple ration cards were linked to a single Aadhaar identity.
Under the revised timeline, beneficiaries must complete biometric updates by April 30. Authorities have warned that no further extension will be provided beyond this date.
Officials said those who fail to complete the process risk having their names struck off the beneficiary database. Once removed, ration cards will be deactivated at dealer-level terminals, effectively halting all future distribution of subsidised supplies.
