Motihari: In a move that is still uncommon in many parts of India, a young man from Bihar has chosen to become a full-time homemaker while his wife continues her professional career. Amit Kumar Dubey, who is originally from Motihari in Champaran, has taken on the responsibility of managing his household, including cooking, cleaning and caring for their daughter. His decision is being seen as a reflection of slowly changing mindsets around gender roles.
Dubey, who holds a diploma in mechanical engineering, was earlier working at a pharmaceutical company in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. However, he decided to leave his job after noticing the pressure his wife faced in balancing both office work and household duties. The couple, who married in 2015, had been managing their responsibilities together, but over time it became difficult for his wife to handle everything alone.
The situation became more serious after his wife faced health issues, including a miscarriage. This made Dubey rethink their family priorities. When their daughter was born, he decided to fully dedicate himself to the home and childcare so that his wife could focus on her career. Since then, he has taken complete charge of household work and raising their child.
Dubey has also shared his daily life on social media through his Instagram account, where he posts videos of himself doing household chores. While some people have appreciated his efforts and supported his decision, others have criticised and trolled him, saying that men should be the main earners in a family. Despite this, Dubey continues his work with confidence and says he is happy with his role, showing that family responsibilities can be shared in different ways.
