Patna: In a major political development in Bihar, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has announced a leadership change following the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Senior BJP leader Samrat Choudhary has been named the new Chief Minister of Bihar. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held today at Raj Bhavan.
Preparations for the high-profile event are in full swing in the state capital. The Patna Municipal Corporation has intensified cleanliness and beautification drives along key routes connecting Patna Airport to Raj Bhavan. Special sanitation arrangements have been put in place inside and outside the venue, with 40 sanitation workers deployed in two shifts.
Officials said regular cleaning is being carried out using advanced equipment, including sweeping machines, vacuum technology, anti-smog guns, fogging systems, and anti-larvae sprays. Water sprinklers are being used twice daily in the morning and evening to suppress dust. A JCB machine and tipper vehicles have been stationed round the clock for waste removal. A pink toilet facility has also been readied near the venue, to be deployed if required.
According to the civic body, both the Nutan Rajdhani Circle and the Patliputra Circle are jointly managing sanitation work from inside Raj Bhavan to Gates 1 to 4, ensuring coordinated arrangements for the ceremony.
Officials added that further instructions from the administration will be implemented as required, while advanced cleaning systems are being used to ensure a dust-free environment for the oath-taking event.
Meanwhile, in a parallel political development, Bihar witnessed a significant shift in leadership. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tendered his resignation after holding the final Cabinet meeting, marking the end of his current tenure. Shortly after, Samrat Choudhary was elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party and subsequently the NDA Legislature Party, paving the way for his elevation as Chief Minister.
Senior BJP leaders, including central observers, were present during the legislative party meeting where Choudhary’s name was proposed and unanimously supported by alliance partners.
Nitish Kumar is expected to move to Delhi after the transition. In an emotional message, he said he would continue to guide the new NDA government while keeping a close watch on Bihar’s governance.
Samrat Choudhary, in his first reaction after being chosen as Chief Minister, said the responsibility was an opportunity to serve the people of Bihar. He thanked the BJP leadership and said he had learned a great deal from Nitish Kumar’s governance model, adding that he aims to further strengthen Bihar’s development journey.
The leadership change marks a significant political realignment in the state, with the NDA formally beginning a new phase in Bihar politics under Choudhary’s leadership.
