Patna: Traffic restrictions were imposed across parts of Patna on Wednesday as the city prepared for the swearing-in ceremony of the new chief minister Samrat Choudhary, with authorities closing key routes and deploying heavy security around the venue.
The curbs, introduced due to VIP movement, came into effect from 7am and will remain in place until the conclusion of the ceremony at Lok Bhawan.
Key roads closed, diversions in place
Vehicular movement has been completely restricted on several main routes, including:
- Taylor Road
- Deshratna Marg
- Circular Road
In addition, the stretch connecting Zoo Gate No. 2 to Rajendra Chowk has been closed, while entry has been restricted:
- Southwards from the IPS Mess intersection
- Westwards from the B.P. Mandal roundabout
Only vehicles carrying VIPs, invited guests and accredited media personnel are being allowed access to these routes.
Advisory for commuters
Traffic police have urged residents to avoid the restricted areas and use alternative routes, warning of possible congestion in adjoining localities.
Office-goers and students have been advised to plan their travel in advance and leave earlier than usual to avoid delays, particularly during peak hours.
Heavy security deployment
More than 700 police personnel have been deployed across the city, with barricades installed at major intersections and mandatory security checks in place.
Security has been tightened around key locations including 1 Aney Marg, the Vidhan Sabha complex and surrounding roads, with additional forces stationed at sensitive points.
City on high alert
Authorities said the measures were necessary to ensure smooth movement of dignitaries and maintain law and order during the event, which marks a significant political transition in the state.
With heightened surveillance and coordinated traffic management, officials said efforts are being made to minimise disruption while ensuring the ceremony proceeds without incident.
