Patna: Monsoon activity is expected to strengthen across Bihar on August 1, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a Yellow Alert for parts of the state. Heavy rainfall has been forecast for six districts, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely in several areas.
According to the latest bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre, Patna, light to moderate rainfall was recorded across most parts of Bihar during the past 24 hours. The department said monsoon conditions are becoming more active across the state.
Heavy Rain Alert for Six Districts
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Araria, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Katihar, Siwan and West Champaran on August 1.
The weather office said monsoon activity is expected to intensify over north-west, north-east and south-west Bihar, prompting the issuance of a Yellow Alert. Most places in these regions are likely to receive rainfall.
Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Likely
Apart from heavy rain, the department has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in several districts across north Bihar and south-west Bihar.
Gusty surface winds with speeds of 30–40 km/h are also expected during thunderstorms, and residents have been advised to remain alert during adverse weather conditions.
Rain Forecast for Patna and Nearby Areas
The weather department has also forecast rainfall in Patna and adjoining districts on August 1.
Cloudy skies are expected over Patna, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Nawada, Gaya, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura and Begusarai, with rainfall likely at several places during the day.
Temperature to Remain Stable
Despite the expected increase in rainfall, the Meteorological Department said there is unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures across Bihar over the next two to three days.
Maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 30°C and 34°C during this period.
