Patna: Traffic movement on Bailey Road is set for a major overhaul as construction work for the Patna Metro gathers pace. The Traffic Police have prepared a new diversion plan under which the movement of autos, e-rickshaws, and buses will be prohibited between Income Tax Golambar and Dumra Chowki from the first week of August. Separate arrangements have been made for private vehicles.
Major Changes to Traffic System
A comprehensive traffic diversion plan has been finalized to facilitate ongoing Metro construction on Nehru Path (Bailey Road). The proposal was prepared after consultations between Traffic Police, Metro officials, and transport representatives. The new system will come into effect after receiving final approval from the District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
Autos and Buses Banned Between Income Tax Golambar and Dumra Chowki
Under the revised arrangement, commercial vehicles—including autos, e-rickshaws, and buses—will not be allowed to operate between Income Tax Golambar and Dumra Chowki. The restriction will remain in place until the Metro construction work is completed.
Private Vehicles to Continue on Bailey Road
Private vehicles will continue to use Bailey Road. Two traffic lanes will be maintained on the available carriageway after excluding the area occupied by Metro construction, allowing movement between Income Tax Golambar and Saguna Mor.
Alternative Routes for Commercial Vehicles
Commercial vehicles departing from Income Tax Golambar will be diverted through Veerchand Patel Path, R-Block Golambar, and Mandiri Nala Road towards Bansghat and the Patna-Bihta route. Vehicles can also access their destinations via LCT Ghat, the Commissioner’s Office, and JP Ganga Path.
Diversion from Saguna Mor and Dumra Chowki
Vehicles approaching from Saguna Mor may use the Bihta-Ashiana Road wherever required. However, commercial vehicles will not be allowed beyond Sheikhpura Mor and Dumra Chowki. They will instead be diverted towards the airport and can reach the Multi-Modal Hub near the GPO through Patel Roundabout, the Legislative Assembly, Atal Path, and R-Block Crossing.
Traffic Plan Finalized After Joint Meeting
The diversion plan was finalized during a meeting chaired by Traffic SP Sagar Kumar, attended by officials from Hindustan Construction Company, BSRTC, the Auto Union, and the Traffic Police. The proposal will now be sent to the District Magistrate and SSP for final approval.
Traffic SP Confirms August Rollout
Traffic SP Sagar Kumar said the new traffic management plan for Bailey Road has been finalized and is expected to be implemented from the first week of August after receiving the necessary administrative approvals.
