Patna: Pashupati Kumar Paras has been admitted to a private hospital in Patna after experiencing breathing difficulties.
The former Union minister is undergoing treatment under medical supervision at a facility in the Kankarbagh area. His condition has not been officially detailed.
Soon after learning of his uncle’s illness, Chirag Paswan visited the hospital and enquired about his health.
Speaking to reporters and in a message shared on social media, Paswan said that despite political differences, Paras remained a father figure to him.
“I came here as a son,” he said, adding that he had asked doctors to ensure the best possible treatment for his uncle and prayed for his speedy recovery.

Political rivalry within the family
The visit comes against the backdrop of a long-standing political rift within the Paswan family following the death of Ram Vilas Paswan.
Differences between Chirag Paswan and Paras over the legacy of the Lok Janshakti Party led to a split, with Chirag heading the LJP (Ramvilas) faction and Paras leading the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party.
The divide had wider political implications, including Paras’s stint as a Union minister and his subsequent exit ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections when Chirag returned to the NDA fold.
Signs of reconciliation
In recent months, there have been indications of a softening of ties between the two leaders.
At a family event in Khagaria, Chirag Paswan was seen seeking Paras’s blessings, while Paras had publicly expressed support for Chirag’s political future, including the possibility of him becoming chief minister of Bihar.
Observers said the hospital visit may further signal a gradual easing of tensions within the family, even as their political paths remain distinct.
Doctors are continuing to monitor Paras’s condition, while political leaders and supporters have expressed concern and wished him a quick recovery.
