Patna: Bihar’s new government has withdrawn a controversial order that restricted government employees from appearing in multiple competitive examinations, a move seen as a relief for thousands of officials across the state.
The decision follows a review at the level of chief minister Samrat Chaudhary, who directed that the earlier directive issued by the Urban Development Department, Bihar be annulled.
Controversial Order Rolled Back
The now-withdrawn order, issued on April 6, had stipulated that a government employee could appear for a departmental or competitive examination only once during their entire service.
It further warned that any employee attempting to take another examination would be required to resign, triggering widespread concern among officials over career stagnation.
Relief For Employees
With the rollback, employees can once again apply for and appear in multiple examinations while continuing in service, enabling them to seek promotions or transition to higher positions.
Officials said the earlier directive had created anxiety within the administrative system, as it limited opportunities for professional growth.
Focus On Career Mobility
Sources indicated that the chief minister intervened after taking note of the concerns, emphasising the need to support skill development and career progression within government service.
The move is part of a broader review of departmental decisions undertaken by the new administration.
