Patna: A student preparing for medical entrance examinations was found dead in a hostel room in Patna, police said on Tuesday, with a suspected case of suicide under investigation.
The deceased, identified as Shreyam, was a resident of Bhagwanpur and had been staying at Nalanda Residency Hostel, Patna for the past two years.
Body Found In Locked Room
According to officials, the incident occurred in the SK Puri police station area, where Shreyam was found lying on his bed after fellow residents forced open the door when he failed to respond.
A container of a toxic substance, identified as sodium azide, was recovered from the room along with a note believed to have been written by the student.
Behaviour Noticed By Peers
Students living nearby said Shreyam had appeared unusually quiet over the past few days.
One resident said he had spoken to Shreyam recently but noticed a marked change in his demeanour, describing him as withdrawn.
Late-night sounds of a phone conversation were reportedly heard from his room a day before the incident.
Emergency Response And Hospital Visit
Hostel authorities said attempts were made to revive him after the door was opened, and he was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead.
Police said a forensic team has examined the room, and items including containers, utensils and bedding have been seized as part of the investigation.
Investigation Under Way
The room has been sealed and further inquiries are ongoing, officials said.
Police have not yet disclosed the contents of the note and said the exact circumstances leading to the death will be established after a detailed investigation.
