Gayaji: Nikhil Kumar, a young man from Sareba village in the Guraru block of Bihar’s Gayaji district, has brought pride to his family and region by securing All India Rank 66 in the Indian Forest Service (IFS) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). His achievement has become a source of inspiration for many students from small towns and rural areas who dream of entering India’s top civil services.
Nikhil’s success did not come easily. This was his second attempt at the examination. In his first attempt, he reached the interview stage but could not make it to the final list. Instead of giving up, he used the experience as motivation, improved his preparation, and worked harder with greater focus and confidence. His determination eventually paid off when he secured a strong rank in his next attempt.
His academic background is equally impressive. Nikhil studied up to Class 12 at DAV School in Delhi and later cleared the highly competitive entrance exam for IIT Delhi, where he completed his B.Tech degree. Despite having an opportunity to pursue a career in the corporate sector after graduating from one of India’s top engineering institutes, he chose to prepare for civil services, aiming to serve the country in administration.
Even after qualifying for the Indian Forest Service, Nikhil has expressed that his ultimate goal is to become an IAS officer. He has said that he will continue working towards this dream with the same dedication and discipline that helped him achieve success in UPSC this time.
Education and discipline run deep in his family. His father, Chandrabhushan Singh, is a retired teacher from Sarvodaya Vidya Mandir Plus Two School in Guraru. His elder sister works as a Block Supply Officer in Jamui district, while his brother is also an IIT graduate. This strong academic environment at home played an important role in shaping his ambitions and mindset.
As news of his achievement spread, celebrations broke out in his village and school. Teachers and staff members from his former school congratulated him, saying his success would motivate other students from rural backgrounds to aim higher. His journey is now being seen as a powerful example of how consistent effort and determination can help students overcome setbacks and achieve success in one of the toughest examinations in the country.
