Patna: A young man died in Patna’s Kadamkuan area on Monday after sustaining a gunshot wound in what police are treating as an apparent suicide. The incident took place in Saidpur Khatal Gali and has prompted an ongoing investigation.
According to police, the man, identified as Rahul Kumar, a resident of Saidpur, was found dead at the scene after a firearm was discharged inside a residential premises where his girlfriend and her mother were present. Officers said the shot was fired inside the house, and the man was declared dead on the spot.
The incident triggered panic in the locality, with residents reporting hearing a loud gunshot in the afternoon before rushing to the spot. A crowd gathered shortly afterwards, and police from Kadamkuan station were called to the scene. A pistol was recovered from the location, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Local residents have suggested that Kumar was in a relationship with a woman from the neighbourhood and that recent tensions between the two may have preceded the incident. Police, however, said they are not drawing conclusions at this stage and are examining all possible angles.
Five people, including two women, have been detained for questioning as part of the inquiry. Investigators are also speaking with family members and witnesses to establish the sequence of events leading up to the incident.
Police said further action will depend on forensic reports and statements from those involved.
