Patna: In a significant political development in Bihar, Nishant Kumar has taken charge as the state’s Health Minister. He is the son of veteran leader Nitish Kumar, and his entry into the cabinet is being closely watched by political observers. Along with handling his ministry, Nishant is also being seen as someone gradually stepping into a larger political role within the Janata Dal (United).
Before officially taking charge, Nishant carried out a two-day “Sadbhav Yatra” across Bihar. During this journey, he visited several places and met local people to understand the party’s support at the ground level. The tour ended in West Champaran, a politically important region for JD(U). Party supporters welcomed him warmly and raised slogans suggesting a possible future leadership role for him in the state.
Since becoming a minister, Nishant has started focusing on both governance and party organisation. He recently held discussions on the structure of Jeevika, which works on rural livelihoods in Bihar. He has also met officials to review healthcare services in the state. At the same time, he is actively meeting party workers, MLAs, and leaders at the JD(U) office in Patna, suggesting that he is building both administrative and political responsibilities together.
Reports suggest that Nishant plans to use his official residence at 2 Deshratna Marg as a centre for political meetings. This residence is located close to his father’s official home, which adds to the political symbolism around his growing role. His recent activities have led to discussions within political circles about whether he is being prepared for a larger future responsibility in Bihar politics.
His public image has also become a topic of discussion on social media. People have commented on his style, health, and communication skills, while opinions about his political rise remain divided. Some see his appointment as a natural continuation of Nitish Kumar’s political legacy, while others believe it is a carefully managed step to maintain influence within the party. For now, Nishant himself has said he is still learning his new department and focusing on understanding his responsibilities.
