Gaya: Construction work under the Centre’s Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor project was disrupted in Gaya district on Tuesday after local farmers staged a protest over land compensation.
Farmers halt corridor construction work
The incident took place near Maulanagar in Dobhi block, where workers and machinery engaged by a private company were carrying out land-levelling work on acquired land.
According to local residents, farmers stopped the machines and labourers, alleging that they had not received adequate compensation for their land.
Police detain five protesters
Following information about the disruption, Bahera station house officer Raviranjan Kumar informed senior officials, after which additional police personnel from Dobhi, Barachatti and nearby areas were deployed at the site.
Police said protesters were asked to disperse, but some allegedly continued the demonstration. Officers then used mild force to clear the crowd and detained five people for questioning.
Raviranjan Kumar said the police acted after receiving reports that workers and machinery had been forcibly stopped during the construction activity.
Corridor project underway in Dobhi
Construction work linked to the industrial corridor has been underway in Dobhi block for the past month. Officials said the company involved in the project has also opened a temporary office at the block headquarters.
The Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor is a major infrastructure project aimed at boosting industrial growth and employment opportunities across regions connected by the route. However, land acquisition and compensation issues have continued to trigger concerns among some affected residents.
