Patna: Petrol and diesel prices have been increased by around Rs 3 per litre amid rising global crude oil prices triggered by the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran. Oil marketing companies revised fuel prices on Friday, May 15, 2026, and the new rates have come into effect from today.
In Patna, petrol is now being sold at Rs 108.67 per litre, compared to Rs 105.37 per litre on Thursday. Diesel prices in the state capital have also increased, rising from Rs 91.65 per litre to Rs 94.65 per litre.
Similar hikes have been reported in Nalanda district. Petrol prices there have increased from Rs 105.87 per litre to Rs 109.19 per litre, while diesel rates have gone up from Rs 92.10 per litre to Rs 95.24 per litre.
The sharp increase in fuel prices is being linked to volatility in the international crude oil market. Before the escalation of tensions between the US and Iran, crude oil prices were around $70 per barrel. Following the outbreak of the conflict, prices have reportedly crossed the $100 per barrel mark in the global market.
Industry sources said oil companies were already under pressure due to rising crude prices and have now increased retail fuel prices to offset losses. Analysts warn that if crude oil prices continue to remain elevated for a prolonged period, petrol and diesel prices may witness further hikes in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently urged citizens to use petroleum products judiciously in view of the geopolitical situation in West Asia.
Speaking at an event in Telangana on Sunday, the Prime Minister said that petrol, diesel, and gas should be used carefully and only as per necessity. He stated that reducing the use of imported petroleum products would help save foreign exchange reserves and lessen the adverse impact of war-related global disruptions.
