Patna: The Bihar government has announced a new initiative to rank government schools across the state twice a year. The ranking will be based on six key parameters, and the performance of school teachers will be tied directly to these rankings. The decision, aimed at improving the quality of education, has been communicated by the state’s education department to all District Education Officers (DEOs).
Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the education department, Dr. S Siddharth, issued a letter stating that the first round of rankings will commence in November, with the next one in March. The rankings will consider academic performance, resource utilization, cleanliness, hygiene, and complaint redressal. Schools securing 100 points will be placed at the top, while those with a minimum of 85 marks will receive a five-star rating.
Each school will be assessed on parameters including student cleanliness and personal grooming, classroom and premises hygiene, and effective use of resources. The schools will be categorized from A to D based on their score, with A plus status awarded to schools with 85-100 points.
The performance of teachers will also be evaluated through the school rankings, influencing their annual evaluation report. Schools achieving high rankings will reflect positively on the staff, while those underperforming will affect teachers’ evaluations.
This initiative is part of the Bihar government’s larger effort to improve education standards and foster overall development in government schools, ensuring better academic and behavioral outcomes for students.
