Patna: Five members of a single family from Bihar’s Bhojpur district were killed in a road accident on Saturday after their car crashed into the rear of a container truck on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district, police said.
The victims were travelling towards Faridabad in Haryana when the accident occurred near milestone 238 under the jurisdiction of Kandharapur police station, close to Siarha village.
High-Speed Collision on Expressway
According to preliminary police information, a Swift Dzire car travelling from Ghazipur towards Lucknow around 4 pm rammed into a container truck moving ahead on the expressway.
Officials said the impact was severe, leaving the front portion of the vehicle completely mangled and trapping all occupants inside.
Police suspect overspeeding as a primary factor behind the collision, though a detailed investigation is underway.
Victims Identified as Bhojpur Residents
Police said all five deceased were residents of Bihar’s Bhojpur district. The victims include a husband and wife, their two children, and the driver of the vehicle.
Authorities are in the process of contacting the family members in Bhojpur and informing them about the incident.
Rescue Operation and Recovery of Bodies
Eyewitnesses reported that the car got wedged beneath the container truck after the collision, causing panic at the site. Local residents and expressway personnel alerted the police immediately.
Police teams reached the spot and used cutting equipment to retrieve the bodies from the wreckage.
Senior Police Officials Visit Site
Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Kumar Srivastava visited the accident site to assess the situation, officials said.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, while further investigation is being carried out to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash.
The incident has once again raised concerns over speeding and road safety on high-speed expressways, where even minor lapses in judgement can result in fatal outcomes.
