Patna: Mithilesh Tiwari has announced a proposal to introduce evening coaching classes in government schools across Bihar, as part of a broader effort to strengthen public education and reduce students’ dependence on private coaching centres.
Speaking at an event in Patna, the education minister said the state government was preparing to convert government schools into a more modern education model where students can access supplementary teaching after regular school hours.
Evening Classes Planned In Government Schools
Under the proposed system, schools will conduct special coaching sessions in the evening for their own students. The department said the classes are intended to create a more competitive academic environment and improve preparation for board examinations and other assessments.
Officials said the scheme is aimed particularly at supporting students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds, who often lack access to paid coaching outside school.
Feedback From Parents And Students Before Rollout
The education department said the programme would not be implemented immediately across all schools. It plans to collect feedback from students and parents before finalising the framework.
Officials said the timing, format and demand for classes would be assessed at the school level to ensure the system is practical for local communities.
Additional Incentives For Teachers
Teachers who conduct classes beyond regular school hours will receive additional financial incentives, according to the minister.
The department said the payment model is being designed to encourage voluntary participation and improve the quality of supplementary teaching.
Infrastructure Upgrade Underway
The state government is also reviewing the physical condition of school infrastructure. District education officers have been asked to submit reports on schools that are dilapidated or operating without proper buildings.
The department said construction and repair work will begin after district-wise data is compiled.
Probe Into Procurement Irregularities
Responding to allegations over bench and desk procurement in Muzaffarpur, Tiwari said the matter would be investigated and action taken if irregularities are confirmed.
He said the department was committed to transparency in procurement and school administration.
Alumni Campaign To Support Schools
The government is also preparing to launch a campaign titled Hamara Vidyalaya, Hamara Swabhiman, aimed at reconnecting alumni with their former schools.
Under the initiative, former students who have achieved distinction in different fields will be encouraged to contribute to school development. Officials said alumni may also be invited to adopt schools and support infrastructure or educational needs.
The minister said he intends to adopt his own former school under the programme.
Digital Complaint Tracking System
The department is developing a digital monitoring platform called the Smart Letter System to track complaints, applications and official correspondence.
Officials said the system will record the status of complaints and ensure responses are issued within fixed timelines. It is also expected to replace the current practice of issuing multiple letters on the same matter.
Changes For Private Schools And Transfers
The minister said the process for issuing No Objection Certificates to private schools may be revised under a new regulatory framework.
The department is also drafting a fresh teacher transfer policy and said it is working to implement the National Education Policy more effectively across the state.
