Muzaffarpur: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Bihar Police has arrested a man from Muzaffarpur on allegations of espionage and suspected links to Pakistan-based operatives, officials said.
The accused, identified as Md. Mustafa, was arrested during a raid conducted following a confidential intelligence input, according to investigators.
Allegations Of Sharing Sensitive Information
Investigating agencies alleged that Mustafa shared photographs, videos and geographical coordinates of sensitive locations in India with foreign handlers.
Officials said the information was allegedly transmitted through social media platforms and encrypted messaging applications.
According to the ATS, the accused remained in regular contact with individuals linked to the suspected network and continued exchanging information through digital channels.
Suspected Links To Arms Smuggling Network
The investigation has also indicated suspected links between the accused and a Pakistan-based arms smuggling network, officials said.
Police sources alleged that Mustafa was in contact with an individual identified as Shahzad Bhatti, who is suspected of operating an arms smuggling ring. Investigators are also examining his alleged communication with another associate identified as Rana Hunain.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the full extent of the alleged network or the duration of the accused’s activities.
Digital Evidence Under Examination
Officials said investigators recovered digital material from the accused’s mobile phone following the arrest.
The ATS is examining deleted chats, application data, backups and other digital records to establish the nature of the communications and identify possible associates.
According to officials, preliminary findings from the digital evidence indicate suspicious activity, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Wider Investigation Continues
The ATS is now scrutinising the accused’s travel history, Call Detail Records (CDRs), financial transactions and social media activity as part of a broader investigation.
Officials said a scientific and systematic analysis of the suspected network and its contacts is underway.
No additional arrests have been announced so far.
