Patna: The Centre has approved the construction of the Bhagwanpur-Mahua-Tajpur-Samastipur rail line as part of a broader plan to expand railway infrastructure in Bihar. The project is among 29 new rail lines cleared for the state under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The proposed rail corridor has drawn attention in Hajipur, the parliamentary constituency represented by Chirag Paswan. Residents, traders and local political workers have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a long-awaited development initiative for the region.
Connectivity And Regional Access
According to Bihar PHED Minister Sanjay Singh, the new line will directly connect Mahua with Bhagwanpur, Tajpur and Samastipur, reducing travel time and improving accessibility for daily commuters.
He said the rail corridor is expected to benefit farmers, traders and students by providing faster transport links and improving access to markets and educational centres.
Officials and local residents believe the project could also strengthen transport infrastructure in Vaishali and neighbouring districts, where road connectivity remains limited in several areas.
Boost To Trade And Employment
Local traders have expressed optimism that better rail connectivity will support the movement of goods and agricultural produce across the region.
Residents said improved transport infrastructure could encourage small businesses and generate employment opportunities, particularly for young people seeking work in nearby urban centres.
The project is also expected to improve links between Hajipur, Mahua and Samastipur, which are important commercial and residential hubs in north Bihar.
Long-Pending Demand
Residents said the demand for a rail line connecting Hajipur, Mahua and Samastipur had remained pending for several years.
They recalled that late Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan had initiated a survey for the project during his tenure as Railway Minister. Many residents described the approval as the fulfilment of a long-standing regional aspiration associated with his efforts.
Expectations From The Project
People in the region expect the rail line to improve access to education, trade and employment while making travel easier for thousands of commuters.
Residents and local representatives said the project has the potential to reshape economic activity across the region once construction begins and the line becomes operational.
