Patna: A female student from Bihar’s Begusarai district allegedly faced an attempted abduction inside a hotel in Patna’s Rupaspur area late on Saturday night while she was in the city to appear for a Polytechnic entrance examination.
According to police and the victim’s family, the accused entered the hotel room in an intoxicated state and allegedly tried to drag the student away in front of her father. The incident was averted after the student screamed for help, waking her father.
Police have arrested a hotel employee identified as Satyendra Kumar in connection with the case.
Father Describes Night Of Panic
The victim’s father told reporters that he had travelled to Patna with his daughter to help her attend the examination scheduled for Sunday. The pair checked into a hotel in the Rupaspur police station area after paying Rs 1,000 for a room.
He alleged that although the hotel management collected his identity proof, they did not properly record guest details in the register and only took his signature before allotting the room.
The father further claimed that the room’s internal latch was defective and could not be securely locked from inside.
According to the complaint, at around midnight a young man allegedly entered the room, approached the student while she was asleep, grabbed her hand and attempted to pull her out of the room.
The student’s screams alerted her father, who intervened and resisted the accused. The suspect then fled the room, the family alleged.
Allegations Against Hotel Management
The victim’s father said he immediately informed a relative living in Patna and contacted the police through the 112 emergency helpline.
He alleged that after the hotel staff learned police had been called, members of the management threatened the family.
When police personnel arrived and sought CCTV footage from the hotel, staff members allegedly claimed that the surveillance cameras were not functioning.
The father also recorded a video of the accused on his mobile phone. Police later identified the individual as a hotel employee, according to officials.
The complainant additionally alleged that alcohol consumption was taking place in several hotel rooms and claimed the hotel premises may have been used for unauthorised activities.
Police Action And Investigation
Based on the written complaint filed on Sunday, Rupaspur police registered an FIR and arrested the accused.
Police officials said further legal action is being taken not only against the accused employee but also against the hotel management for alleged violations related to guest verification and record maintenance.
Investigators are also examining whether illegal alcohol-related activities were taking place on the hotel premises.
The student’s father said the incident left his daughter traumatised ahead of her examination, affecting her mental state and confidence.
