Patna: Bihar is expected to receive relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions over the next three days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across large parts of the state.
The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued ‘Yellow’ and ‘Orange’ alerts for multiple districts between May 27 and May 29, warning of lightning strikes, heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
Rain and Wind Forecast for May 27
According to the weather department, rain accompanied by strong winds is likely on May 27 in districts including West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Vaishali, Patna, Nalanda, Begusarai, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, Jamui and Gaya.
A ‘Yellow’ alert has been issued for Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Jehanabad and Arwal. Weather conditions are expected to remain comparatively stable in Kaimur, Rohtas, Bhojpur and Aurangabad districts.
Thunderstorm Activity Likely to Intensify on May 28
The IMD has forecast widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across most districts on May 28. Strong winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph are also expected in several regions.
Districts likely to witness severe weather activity include West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Madhepura, Saharsa, Khagaria, Munger, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Begusarai, Samastipur, Darbhanga and Vaishali.
The department has advised people to avoid open fields and stay away from trees and electric poles during thunderstorms.
Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued for May 29
On May 29, adverse weather conditions are expected in nearly all districts of Bihar. The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall, lightning and dust-laden winds in districts including West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Vaishali, Patna, Begusarai, Khagaria, Munger, Bhagalpur, Banka, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Saharsa and Madhepura.
An ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for several districts, indicating the possibility of more intense weather activity and heavy downpours in isolated areas.
Advisory Issued for Farmers and Residents
The weather department has urged farmers to remain cautious while working in agricultural fields during the forecast period.
Residents have been advised not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms and to move to safer locations in case of lightning activity. Authorities have also appealed to people to monitor official weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
