Patna: The Urban Development and Housing Department has initiated measures to provide relief to delivery personnel and courier workers facing extreme heat conditions in Patna.
The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Bihar Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra on Tuesday. Officials from the Patna Municipal Corporation attended the meeting.
The department directed civic authorities to establish temporary shades and drinking water centres at key locations across the city to assist workers engaged in home delivery, courier, and e-commerce services.
Relief Measures Planned Across Busy Areas
According to officials, the Municipal Corporation has been instructed to install temporary shelters in congested markets, major intersections, and along busy roads.
These centres will include seating arrangements and access to cool drinking water to help workers cope with prolonged exposure to sunlight and heatwaves.
Officials said delivery personnel often spend long hours outdoors while completing orders and waiting at pickup or drop-off points, making heat-related difficulties a growing concern during the summer season.
Directions Issued for Swift Implementation
During the meeting, the minister instructed officials to expedite the implementation of the facilities and ensure proper maintenance at all drinking water centres.
The department also directed civic authorities to regularly monitor hygiene standards and operational conditions at these locations.
Officials said the initiative is expected to benefit thousands of delivery and courier workers operating across Patna. The department is also considering expanding similar facilities to other areas in the coming weeks based on requirement and demand.
