Patna: A young man died after allegedly jumping from a three-storey building in the Kadamkuan area of Patna on Wednesday morning, police said.
The incident took place in an alley near Road Number 2 on Nala Road under the jurisdiction of the Kadamkuan Police Station. Residents out for morning walks discovered the body lying in the lane and informed the police.
Police officers reached the spot soon after receiving the information, took custody of the body and began an investigation.
CCTV Footage Examined
According to police officials, CCTV footage collected from nearby buildings showed the young man entering the premises early in the morning.
Investigators said the footage indicated that he walked to the rooftop shortly after entering the building and then jumped. He died at the scene due to the impact of the fall.
Identity Yet to Be Established
Police said the deceased had not been identified at the time of reporting.
Local residents told investigators that the man had been seen wandering in the area on previous occasions and appeared to be mentally distressed. Officials, however, said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident would be confirmed only after further inquiry.
The Station House Officer of Kadamkuan Police Station said the building’s main gate was open when the young man entered. He reportedly went directly to the terrace before the incident occurred.
Police have appealed to the public for information that could help establish the identity of the deceased.
Crowd Gathers at Scene
The incident drew a large number of residents to the area during the morning hours. Police personnel remained at the site for some time to manage the crowd and complete preliminary procedures.
Residents said the incident caused concern among people living in the locality, particularly as it occurred early in the day in a residential lane.
Similar Incident Reported Last Year
Police records show that a similar incident was reported in the Nala Road area in November last year.
In that case, a young woman died after jumping from the terrace of Sulakshana Apartments. Investigators later stated that she had reportedly been dealing with mental health issues. According to police, she had entered the apartment building through an open gate before the incident took place.
