Patna: The Bihar Education Department has imposed a ban on teachers’ leave from May 27 to May 31, directing all teaching staff to remain present in schools until the final working day before summer vacation.
According to the department, the decision was taken after a rise in leave applications from teachers in recent days. Officials expressed concern that large-scale absences could disrupt classroom instruction during the final academic week before the holidays.
The department has instructed schools to ensure regular teaching activities continue during this period.
Homework Mandatory Before Summer Vacation
The Education Department has also directed schools to assign subject-wise homework to students before the summer break begins.
Schools have been asked to record homework details in students’ diaries to ensure continuity in learning during the vacation period. Officials said the measure is intended to prevent students from becoming disconnected from studies during the holidays.
Bihar Colleges to Collaborate with Top Universities
Alongside school-level directives, the Bihar government announced several measures aimed at strengthening higher education in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary directed officials to initiate agreements between colleges in Bihar and the country’s top 10 universities.
The government said the proposed collaborations are expected to improve academic standards in Bihar and attract students from other states.
Undergraduate Courses Planned in 211 Blocks
During a review meeting, the state government directed officials to begin undergraduate courses from July 1 in 211 blocks that currently do not have degree colleges.
New colleges are being established in these areas, and the administration has been instructed to accelerate recruitment of teachers and non-teaching staff.
Officials were also told to ensure that the colleges are located in accessible areas so that students do not face transportation difficulties.
Colleges May Be Named After Land Donors
The state government has introduced a policy under which degree colleges may be named after individuals who donate land for their establishment.
According to the proposal, individuals contributing financially towards campus construction may also have sections of the institution named in their honour.
Expansion of Open Universities Under Consideration
The Bihar government is also planning to increase the number of open universities in the state.
Officials have been asked to study the functioning of open universities operating in other parts of the country. The government said the expansion could improve access to higher education while reducing pressure on existing universities.
Vikramshila University Project to Be Accelerated
The government said efforts to revive Vikramshila University would be expedited.
Officials informed the review meeting that the process of transferring required land to the Central Government would be completed soon to facilitate the project.
Research Institutions to Receive Greater Focus
The state government has also announced plans to strengthen research institutions in Bihar.
Officials were directed to improve the functioning of A.N. Sinha Institute of Social Studies and revive research centres across the state.
The government said stronger research institutions would help improve the study and evaluation of public policies and welfare schemes in Bihar.
