Patna: After days of intense heatwave conditions across Bihar, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm and rainfall alert for several parts of the state on Thursday, bringing possible relief to residents struggling with soaring temperatures.
According to the Meteorological Centre, orange alerts have been issued for 32 districts, while six districts remain under yellow alert. Heavy rainfall, lightning strikes, and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph are likely in these areas.
The weather department stated that conditions across Bihar are expected to remain relatively normal over the next one week, with a noticeable drop in maximum temperatures. Intermittent rainfall and cloudy skies are likely to provide relief from the ongoing heatwave and extreme humidity.
Weather Outlook for the Next Seven Days
Officials said temperatures in Bihar are expected to remain below normal for the next seven days. Several districts may witness thunderstorms accompanied by rain, especially during afternoon and evening hours.
While humidity levels may continue in some regions, the severe heatwave conditions witnessed over the past several days are likely to ease significantly.
Pre-Monsoon and Monsoon Arrival in Bihar
Meteorologists said pre-monsoon activities have started intensifying in Bihar. Pre-monsoon showers are expected to begin during the first and second weeks of June.
The southwest monsoon is likely to enter Bihar between June 12 and June 18. Experts added that if weather systems over the Bay of Bengal strengthen further, the monsoon could arrive slightly ahead of schedule.
Why Has the Weather Changed Suddenly?
According to weather experts, moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal are continuously moving towards Bihar. At the same time, the impact of a western disturbance and local cyclonic circulation has increased atmospheric instability, triggering thunderstorms and rainfall across the state.
Experts noted that such weather conditions are common during the pre-monsoon period.
Rain Likely in Patna
The weather department has also predicted thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rainfall in Patna. Wind speeds in the state capital may range between 50 and 60 kmph.
Cloudy conditions throughout the day are expected to bring down temperatures and provide much-needed relief from the scorching heat.
Cloud Cover in Begusarai
Weather conditions changed in Begusarai on Thursday morning, with cloudy skies reported since early hours. The Meteorological Department said rainfall is likely in the district later in the day.
