Patna: In a major push to promote eco-tourism and attract global attention to Bihar’s natural destinations, the state government has prepared an ambitious mega plan to develop key water bodies into tourism hubs.
Under the initiative, the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department has identified 27 major dams and 247 ponds across the state that will be transformed into eco-tourism destinations.
According to officials, the proposed tourism sites will feature resorts, water sports facilities, and adventure activities aimed at boosting tourism and generating employment opportunities in local areas.
To attract private investors and accelerate project implementation, the state government will organise the Eco-Tourism Investors Meet-2026 in Patna on June 9. Investors from different sectors are expected to participate in the event.
The government has decided to promote private participation through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Under the policy, investors will be offered land on long-term leases of up to 30 years to develop tourism infrastructure.
Officials said the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department has also simplified the investment process by categorising the identified reservoirs, ponds, and water bodies into two grades based on their tourism potential and geographical location.
The initiative is expected to strengthen Bihar’s tourism sector, encourage sustainable development, and create new opportunities for hospitality and adventure tourism in the state.
