Kishanganj: A major railway accident was narrowly averted at Thakurganj railway station in Bihar on Saturday when a passenger fell into the gap between a moving train and the platform while attempting to board the 14663 NJP–Amritsar Amrit Bharat Express.
According to the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the passenger was rescued safely after RPF Sub-Inspector Suman Kumar noticed the incident and immediately alerted railway staff, leading to the train being stopped.
Passenger Lost Balance While Boarding
RPF officials identified the passenger as Mukesh Kumar Paswan, a resident of Madanpur village in Sitamarhi district. He had arrived at Thakurganj station with his wife and son to travel to Sitamarhi on the Amrit Bharat Express.
The train arrived at the platform at around 10.33am. Officials said passengers faced difficulty boarding because of heavy crowding near the coaches.
As the train began moving after a brief halt, Paswan attempted to board while carrying a bag. He reportedly lost his balance and slipped into the gap between the train and the platform.
RPF Personnel Responded Immediately
RPF Sub-Inspector Suman Kumar, who was present on the platform, witnessed the incident and rushed to inform the train guard. The train was brought to an immediate halt.
Following the stop, Head Constable Chandra Bahadur Katwal and other railway personnel worked together to pull the passenger out safely from the narrow space between the platform and the train.
Railway officials said Paswan was rescued without serious injury and was found to be in stable condition.
Family Expresses Gratitude
After the rescue, Paswan and his family thanked the RPF personnel for their prompt response.
Family members said the timely intervention of the railway staff prevented what could have been a fatal accident.
Witnesses at the station also expressed relief, noting that even a short delay in stopping the train could have resulted in a tragedy.
Safety Warning For Passengers
Following the incident, RPF officials urged passengers not to board or alight from moving trains under any circumstances.
Railway authorities said the incident highlights the risks associated with attempting to board a train after it has started moving and underscored the importance of following safety protocols at stations.
