Patna: Two people, including a 12-year-old boy, died in separate drowning incidents in Patna City on Sunday, police said.
The first incident took place at East Didarganj Ghat under the Didarganj police station area, where three teenagers had gone to bathe in the Ganges. The second occurred at Mangal Talab in the Chowk police station limits.
Teenager Swept Away In Ganges
According to local residents, the three teenagers entered the river on Sunday afternoon and drifted into deep water while bathing.
Anil Kumar, a municipal supervisor present at the ghat, entered the river and rescued two of the boys. However, the third teenager was swept away by the strong current and could not be saved.
The deceased was identified as Ayush Kumar, 12, son of Santosh Saw, a resident of Bajrang Tola (South Lane) in Didarganj.
Search Operation Launched
Following the incident, Ward No. 72 councillor Sandhya Yadav reached the site and informed the police.
A joint search operation involving the police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local divers was launched in the Ganges. After several hours of searching, the team recovered Ayush Kumar’s body.
Sunil Kumar, Station House Officer of Didarganj police station, said police personnel reached the scene immediately after receiving information and coordinated the search effort.
The body was sent to Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH) for post-mortem examination, he said.
Young Man Drowns In Mangal Talab
In a separate incident, a young man believed to be around 25 years old drowned in Mangal Talab under the Chowk police station area.
Police said they received information from local residents and reached the spot with divers, who later recovered the body from the pond.
Investigation Underway
According to police, the deceased’s family declined a post-mortem examination. After completing the required legal formalities, the body was handed over to relatives.
Police said an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
