Bihar Policewoman Injured in Arrow Attack, Undergoes Critical Surgery
Purnia: A team of seven doctors at Max Hospital in Purnia successfully removed an arrow from the face of female Sub-Inspector (SI) Nusrat Parveen through a surgery. The arrow had penetrated about 2 inches inside below her eye, requiring the medical team to cut part of the facial bone to extract it. Senior surgeon Dr. Santosh Kumar, who led the operation, confirmed that Nusrat is now out of danger but remains under observation for 48 hours before a discharge decision is made.
The incident occurred in Araria on Monday at 3 am, when the police, including Nusrat, went to remove illegal encroachments from disputed land. Villagers attacked the police with arrows and sticks, injuring two officers from the Jokihat police station. Assistant Sub-Inspector Virendra Kumar Nat also sustained injuries but was discharged after receiving primary treatment.
Kasba police station in-charge Ajay Kumar confirmed that the female inspector’s surgery was successful, and her condition is stable. Dr. Amit Jha, who also treated Nusrat, emphasized the complexity of the surgery, as the arrow was lodged near her eye and required extreme caution to remove.
The police team had arrived in Pokhariya village after receiving complaints of a land dispute between two parties. The encroachers, armed with sticks, bows, and arrows, attacked the police, resulting in the injuries. The police destroyed the illegal bamboo structures and registered an FIR against 25 named individuals, including Birendra Rishidev and his father, along with 250-300 unidentified attackers.
This incident is the latest in a string of violent attacks on law enforcement in Bihar. In the past six months, three sub-inspectors have been killed in the state.
