New Delhi: Gold and silver prices moved higher on Tuesday, with both precious metals extending a rally that has seen sharp gains since the beginning of 2026.
According to data released by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 24-carat gold increased by Rs 760 per 10 grams to reach Rs 1.56 lakh. Silver prices also rose, gaining Rs 2,950 per kilogram to reach Rs 2.66 lakh.
The latest increase comes amid continued volatility in precious metal markets, which have been influenced by global economic uncertainty, investor demand and fluctuations in international commodity prices.
Strong Gains Since Start Of The Year
Gold and silver have both recorded significant gains so far this year despite retreating from the record highs witnessed in January.
On December 31, 2025, 10 grams of gold was priced at Rs 1.33 lakh. At current levels, the yellow metal has gained around Rs 23,000 during 2026.
Silver has also posted strong returns. From Rs 2.30 lakh per kilogram at the end of last year, the metal has climbed to Rs 2.66 lakh, representing an increase of approximately Rs 36,000.
Record Highs Reached In January
Both metals touched historic highs earlier this year before witnessing a correction.
Gold reached an all-time high of Rs 1.76 lakh per 10 grams on January 29, while silver surged to a record Rs 3.86 lakh per kilogram on the same day.
Market analysts attribute the earlier rally to strong safe-haven demand, global economic uncertainty and sustained investor interest in precious metals.
Buyers Advised To Check Hallmarking
Industry experts advise consumers purchasing gold jewellery to ensure that products carry a valid Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark, which certifies purity.
The hallmark identification number is alphanumeric and helps buyers verify the authenticity and carat value of the gold being purchased.
Consumers are also encouraged to compare prevailing market rates from multiple reliable sources, including IBJA data, before making purchases. Checking the exact weight, purity and applicable making charges can help buyers make informed decisions amid fluctuating bullion prices.
