Patna: A sports summer camp organised by the Bihar State Sports Authority commenced on June 8 at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, offering free training in a range of sports and physical activities for children.
According to officials, 775 students have already registered online to participate in the camp. Children who were unable to complete registration through the online portal were also given an opportunity to apply on the opening day.
The camp will continue until June 20 and is open to boys and girls aged between 7 and 14 years.
Two Daily Training Sessions
The summer camp is being conducted in two sessions each day. The morning session will run from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM, while the evening session will be held from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Participants will receive T-shirts, refreshments and certificates as part of the programme.
Wide Range of Sports Activities
Ravindran Sankaran, Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority, said the camp aims to introduce children to basic exercises, strength training, conditioning and different sporting disciplines.
Children attending the camp will receive training in football, basketball, athletics, yoga, chess, skating, Kho-Kho, table tennis and archery. Sessions on warm-up exercises, stretching and physical fitness have also been included in the programme.
Adventure sports activities such as wall climbing will be organised, alongside self-defence training that includes introductory lessons in martial arts, including Taekwondo.
Focus on Physical Activity During Holidays
Officials said the primary objective of the initiative is to encourage children to spend their summer holidays participating in sports and outdoor activities rather than spending extended periods on mobile phones and television.
The authority believes that early exposure to sports can help improve fitness, discipline and overall well-being among children.
Sports Quizzes Also Planned
In addition to physical training, sports-related quizzes will be organised during the camp to enhance participants’ knowledge and encourage greater interest in sports.
The camp is primarily intended for children residing in Patna, as no residential accommodation has been arranged for participants.
