Patna: Athletes from Bihar delivered a strong performance at the inaugural World Yogasana Championship in Ahmedabad, winning two gold medals and one silver medal and bringing international recognition to the state.
The championship, held at EKA Arena from June 4 to June 8, featured more than 500 athletes from over 70 countries. Bihar’s medal winners included Dilip Kumar from Masaurhi, Soni Kumari from Chhapra and Sudhanshu Shekhar from Muzaffarpur.
Two Gold Medals for Bihar
Dilip Kumar won a gold medal in the forward bend event, while Soni Kumari secured gold in the leg balance category.
Their performances placed Bihar among the leading medal-winning states at the championship and highlighted the growing presence of Yogasana athletes from the region on the international stage.
Silver Medal for Muzaffarpur Athlete
Sudhanshu Shekhar added to Bihar’s tally by winning a silver medal in the back bend event.
His performance contributed to the state’s overall success in a competition that featured participants from across the world.
Association Hails Achievement
Dr. Rani Singh, Secretary of the Bihar Yogasana Sports Association, welcomed the athletes’ achievements and said the results reflected the talent and dedication of Bihar’s players.
She stated that regular training opportunities and exposure to competitions had helped athletes gain confidence and perform at the highest level.
Growth of Yogasana in Bihar
According to Dr. Singh, the association was established during the COVID-19 pandemic and continued to provide training and competitive opportunities despite resource constraints.
She said those efforts are now yielding results, with Bihar athletes securing medals at international events and representing the state on the global stage.
Congratulations Pour In
The success of the athletes prompted celebrations across Bihar, with sports administrators and association officials congratulating the medal winners.
Association Patron Ajit Kumar, Mentor Abhijit Kumar and President Chandrashekhar Prasad extended their congratulations and wished the athletes success in future competitions.
The achievement is being viewed as a significant milestone for Bihar’s Yogasana community, particularly given the scale of participation and the level of international competition at the championship.
