Patna: Weather conditions shifted across several parts of Bihar on Monday, bringing rain, thunderstorms and strong winds to some districts even as large parts of the state continued to grapple with intense heat and humidity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued thunderstorm and rainfall alerts for 14 districts and warned of lightning activity in several areas.
According to the IMD, thunderstorms and rain are likely in seven districts, including Patna, over the next few hours. The state is currently witnessing contrasting weather conditions, with some regions receiving rainfall while others continue to experience scorching temperatures.
Rain, Strong Winds Hit Several Districts
Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds was reported from Mokama in Patna district on Monday. Dark clouds and gusty winds were also observed in Munger, while weather conditions changed significantly in Begusarai.
The IMD said South Bihar continues to experience severe heat and humidity despite isolated rainfall activity in some regions. Temperatures are expected to increase by 2°C to 3°C over the next two days before conditions begin to improve later this week.
Kaimur Records Highest Temperature
Temperature levels remained high across several districts during the last 24 hours, with two districts recording maximum temperatures above 40°C.
Kaimur emerged as the hottest district in the state with a maximum temperature of 40.5°C, followed closely by Rohtas at 40.4°C. Buxar recorded 39.6°C, while Patna registered a maximum temperature of 38°C.
Meanwhile, dust storms with wind speeds of up to 68 kmph swept through Arwal and Nawada districts. Light rainfall was reported from Kishanganj.
Heat Likely to Persist for Next Few Days
The IMD has forecast maximum temperatures between 38°C and 42°C in most districts over the coming days. Strong sunshine and hot winds during afternoon hours are expected to increase discomfort levels due to rising humidity.
Residents may experience relatively cooler conditions during morning and evening hours, though daytime heat is likely to remain intense.
Rainfall Activity Expected to Intensify
According to the weather department, Araria, Kishanganj and Supaul are likely to witness heavy rainfall along with wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph on June 10 and 11.
Thunderstorm and rainfall activity is expected to intensify across most districts of North Bihar between June 12 and 13. From June 13 onwards, rain accompanied by thunder is likely across large parts of the state, providing relief from the ongoing heatwave.
Monsoon May Arrive by June 15
The IMD has indicated that weather conditions are likely to change significantly after June 10, with temperatures expected to fall by 2°C to 4°C across Bihar.
Meteorologists have also projected the arrival of the southwest monsoon in the state around June 15, which could bring widespread rainfall and sustained relief from the prevailing heat.
Patna Forecast
Patna is expected to remain hot on Monday despite the possibility of partial cloud cover. The maximum temperature in the capital is likely to remain between 39°C and 40°C.
While cloud movement may increase during the evening hours, the likelihood of significant rainfall in the city remains low for now, according to the latest forecast.
